The Port of Oakland reported that the number of loaded containers reached 146,187 TEUs in January, an increase of 8.5% compared to the first month of 2024.
“Strong import growth reflects the resilience of Northern California’s economy and the confidence shippers have in our gateway,” said Bryan Brandes, the Maritime Director of the Port of Oakland.
He added, “Export volumes remained steady, highlighting the continued demand for U.S. agricultural products and manufactured goods worldwide. This growth is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of our workforce, terminal operators, and supply chain partners. We appreciate their commitment and will continue to work together to maintain efficiency and expand capacity to support our customers.”
This year’s loaded import volume increased by 13%, with California ports handling 81,453 TEUs in January. Additionally, loaded exports saw moderate growth, rising by 3.4% to 64,735 TEUs. Meanwhile, empty imports decreased by 26.2%, with 12,625 TEUs leaving the port in January, while empty exports increased by 19.8%, reaching 34,363 TEUs.
